Soror Strong is a graduate of UW – Milwaukee with a B.A. in Psychology with an emphasis in counseling. Somewhere along the way, she became interested in working with preschool aged children and has held jobs as a preschool teacher and program administrator for several years in Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Madison. She is an advocate for emphasizing the importance of quality early childhood care and education for our children. Birth through age 6 is when the most critical learning takes place laying the foundation for future learning and success. She now works for the City of Madison as an Early Care and Education Specialist accrediting child care programs in the City of Madison.
Soror Strong loves being a member of Delta Sigma Theta. She loves the fun part of what is to be a Delta but learned early on that you have to do “the work” to understand the Pride that comes with wearing “Crimson and Cream.” She pledged Kappa Eta Chapter at UW-Milwaukee May 1981. At the present time as a member of Madison Alumnae Chapter, she holds the office of Corresponding Secretary. She also is a member of the Scholarship, Protocol, Programs and Projects, Heart and Soul, committees and Co chair of Founders Day and the Concession Stand Committees. On the State level, she is the Recording Secretary for the State Council. Even though she holds different leadership positions in the chapter, she really does prefer to work behind the scenes helping to build the foundation so the front line people can focus on a positive end result.
Her mother, Mellie Lenita McKee Concentine and Sister Brigit McNeal are also Deltas. Her Mother is 84 and continues her weekly volunteer commitments. Her sister is an active member with Milwaukee Alumnae.
Outside of work and DST, Soror Strong is a member of S.S. Morris Community A.M.E. Church where among other things she is a member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee and publishes the church newsletter. Most recently and after much urging from her husband Wayne Strong, Soror Strong makes time to help him with the Southside Raiders Cheerleading and Football program on Saturdays by working in the concession stand and helping wherever needed. Soror Strong is a volunteer for the Kibble on Wheels program where she delivers dog and cat food to people who cannot provide food for their pets. Speaking of pets, during her birthday month, she donates dog food and other supplies to the Humane Society of Dane County.
"The Delta girl is one who has been given the opportunity of education and broad development: she is one who has enjoyed the privileges of culture and selected environment...It is pleasing to a heartfelt depth to see her not as self centered, not desirous of selfish power, not wanting the plaudits of people, not wanting glory- but with a purpose which directs her activities and all that she may control toward lifting somebody else.
-Soror Mary McCleod-Bethune.
